Danville is proud to again serve as the host of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Division II Men’s National Basketball Tournament. All games will be held March 19-23 at Danville Area Community College (DACC). The college and city of Danville have received bids to host the tournament for the past 20 years due in large part to the area’s volunteers, hospitality, and sponsorship. The Danville Area Convention and Visitors’ Bureau helps to feed nearly 80 coaches, officials, and sponsors lunch and dinner each day and also assists in setting up hundreds of volunteers throughout the week. Other local organizations and committees help feed players, provide local information, and assist with tournament concessions and souvenir sales. If you are interested in volunteering or sponsorship, please contact the DACVB via phone at (217) 442-2096 or email email@example.com.
The tournament will consist of 16 of the country’s top junior college teams who will be placed into brackets and compete in a double-elimination format. Many four-year coaches will also be on hand to scout and recruit prospective players. DACC has undergone major renovations in the past year to enhance the tournament experience for participants and fans. Improvements include the addition of two locker rooms, a new hospitality area for coaches, officials, and sponsors, and cosmetic updates to flooring and walls. These improvements will be featured when tournament directors meet with the NJCAA in April to put in a bid for the 2015-2017 tournaments.
We are excited for players and fans to see the new renovations and of course for a great week of college basketball! Find the latest information on qualifying teams and halftime entertainment at www.dacc.edu/njcaa. We’ll see you in March!
