One of the remaining stadium of the era, Danville Stadium was built in 1946 by an agreement with Branch Rickey as a farm location for the Brooklyn Dodgers. It has rostered over 80 major league players and coaches including Carl Erskine, Gorman Thomas, Jon Papelbon, and Darrin Fletcher.
Over the years, visiting teams have brought their talent to the stadium as well. Players of note are Sachel Paige with the Kansas City Monarchs and Jackie Robinson with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The ballpark was used in 1991 as a location for the filming of Universal’s The Babe.
Owned by the City of Danville, the stadium currently serves as home field for the Danville Dans, Danville Area Community College, Danville High School, Schlarman Academy, and Danville Legion Post 210.
